“Life’s a journey!”—that is my motto.

Participating in this event now for several years has definitely been a highlight of my own journey. It is incredible to witness firsthand how Heads Up Barbershop Inc. is making such a positive impact on the lives of kids in our community with this event.

The Heads Up For Our Youth Back to School Rally was yet another powerful reminder of what community can do when it shows up for its young people. The team at Heads Up consistently proves year after year that genuine care, steady support, and intentional investment can change the trajectory of youth in Greensboro. Events like this don’t just provide supplies they uplift futures, strengthen confidence, and reinforce that our children’s education and well being matter. It was a joy to witness a celebration of hope, purpose, and community in action. I was truly blessed to be invited to take part in this amazing event. I’m looking forward to doing it again next year!

Stepping into the event I was immediately welcomed with a bright face and an enthusiastic atmosphere. All walks of life came together to celebrate our youth returning to school and to give resources for those in need! Haircuts, book bags, fianancial help, mental help, and a whole range of powerful resources were readily available alongside games and powerful speeches. I’m grateful to this organization for giving me the ability to spread gods message of kindness and love to my community.

This event was very well organized and a great spot to bring kids together one last time before school! I had the pleasure of volunteering during this event and I enjoyed myself and I can’t wait to come back next year!

I attended the back to school event with my daughter and 2 of her friends. We were thoroughly entertained. There was an abundance of community resources and information. The event was well organized and extremely beneficial. I will continue to support all events and projects possible from Heads Up For Our Youth.

This event helps so many underprivileged people. They are really making an impact in people’s lives and their wallets. They gave all the kids a pass to get free haircuts for a year. . Haircuts are $35, just imagine how much it is saving single Moms. Come on ya’ll. That’s a Blessing. The people responsible for this event are from God. They are walking in their purpose and the event will be even bigger next year.

This is my second year attending this event, the first year I was a scholarship recipient and the next year I came back as the guest speaker. This event is an amazing opportunity to grow and get connected with your community!!

This was a wonderful community event that truly focused on the needs of our community. The presentations were encouraging, uplifting, and provided valuable information and inspiration. It was refreshing to see our community come together, address important needs, and offer support and encouragement. Students and parents alike, left feeling hopeful, motivated, and excited for a great school year ahead!

Amazing! This event is a guarantee to give the kids everything that they need before returning back to school. The icing on the cake is it gives you a true family fun entertainment experience from the beginning to the end. Congratulations on a job well done!

Majority of the time, it is the receiver providing a review for an event or fundraiser on how thankful they are for the actions that just transpired. However, as an avid giver, I wanted to make sure I administered some flowers while they still have the ability to be received by another giver. Normally, what I do for others will not make it to social media. Nevertheless, this demonstration of support was different for me. This was my first time volunteering for a back to school drive and I must say it was one of THE best acts of love and support I have ever been affiliated with. Dwayne Shaw first structured this celebration 10 years ago and it has done everything except failed. Germinated from a thought, birthed from a dream then delivered with love and intent, this pledge of mental assurance and preparation for the children is a blessing in itself. The line was well shaped before the doors were opened. Positioned at the door as a greeter, I had the privilege of seeing an abundance of little ones look at me with excitement. Smiling before they crossed the threshold. Excited about school because people were excited about helping. Every phase of ensuring all children that entered those Coliseum doors on August 10 departed without the first day anxiety and equipped with supplies, haircuts, motivation, amazing food vendors, and new friends that would make the following week that more anticipated. In addition to serving my community of extended family at a venue where a multitude of 4 foot high smiles and happiness instantaneously filled the room, there was also a great amount of gratification that came with completing this assignment with over a dozen volunteers that walked in as strangers but left with new friends and a greater spirit. Everyone shared accountability. Everyone shared positions. But, most importantly, everyone shared the bigger picture which was the children. This was a great event performed by great people with even greater intentions. I will see you all in the years to come.

It was amazing to experience this well throughout, well planned event for the first! The volunteer staff was amazing and very helpful! Seeing so many deserving kids receive bookbags was refreshing and rewarding! Way to rally around our local community!

What an amazing event! We are glad we were able to Kause a little Kaos with you as your coaching staff for the basketball game. We cannot wait to join you next year!

I loved the collaboration and purpose for the event. I loved that I was able to learn about the offers that’s available for financial literacy, physical/social activity for the children, health options, etc. The book bags were amazing and my kids enjoyed watching the game. My daughter and her friend enjoyed watching the dancers. The staff was nice and patient. I ordered my tickets in advance and they found my name but there still was an issue about confirming the number. I don’t understand why but they finally figured it out. It just had me for a scare that they wouldn’t let us in. There was minimum seating and families with scrollers had no option but to stand. It was ok to stand but it seemed to not really be anywhere to stand without being in the way. It was really hot in the building. Now when it came to obtaining the amazing book bags it went downhill. The direction was confusing and disorganized. They wanted so many people to get on the court then off the court then this and that. Finally some of the staff ignored the order of what the lady wanted to do and just handed out book bags, which led to people exiting the building which led to less frustration and aggravation and confusion.

A suggestion in the future would be to pass the book bag out at the exits or pass them out through out the event. I understand the focus may have been on making sure you have an audience throughout the event and trying to prevent a rush. Overall, I’m thankful that you guys care enough for the community to provide book bags. My children were going back with old book bags until of course we went to this event. I now have contact with a black owned realitor that will be helping me out with the homeownership part of my life. My kids will be contributing to breaking the black people can’t swim and taking free swim classes. I know a place for cheap haircuts. I have a prospect for a job! I didn’t give the event 5 stars due to the frustrated entrance and exit process I had. As a veteran those are very important processes that have to go well!

Loved attending and participating in the 9th Annual Back2School Rally! Seeing the community come together to send underserved youth with the school supplies they need start the 2024-2025 school year was amazing! The event was inviting, fun and entertaining! This is definitely an event you would want to be apart of next year!

Brining people together and creating a community is no small feat. Dwayne Shaw has found a way to create a marketing, networking, and charity event all in one and making it fun for all those involved. This was our first year participating and after this experience we will be coming back EVERY YEAR AFTER!

Heads Up For Our Youth. I am so proud of you. It meant so much to me and the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, to see you pour out love, and blessings to the youth in our great community. The backpack give away was awesome. The smiles on the youth faces spoke high volumes. God Bless you, and the awesome volunteers that dedicated their time and support for this great event!

I recently attended Heads Up For our Youth 9th Annual Back to School event and I must say, it was a fantastic experience for everyone involved. The event was well-organized, with a great balance of fun activities, learning opportunities, and community building.

What I Liked:

• Engaging Activities: The variety of activities kept everyone entertained and involved. Whether it was the games, or Vendors, there was something for everyone.

• Positive Environment: The atmosphere was incredibly supportive and inclusive. The event staff and volunteers did a great job making everyone feel welcome.

• Inspiring Speakers: The speakers were both engaging and inspiring, leaving a lasting impact on the attendees.

Heads Up For Our Youth is a blessing to the Greensboro community. Thank you for the back to school rally.

This was my family’s first time at a HUFOY event. Being a hoops fan, the game was just an added bonus. The band, the cheerleaders all of it! Love to see our generation take care of the next. That is what it is all about. I had a great time, kids enjoyed themselves and would love to support in any way I can. Keep up the good work!

I had an amazing time attending the Heads Up for Our Youth event! It was wonderful to see the community come together for such a positive cause. The kids had an absolute blast, especially during the tug-of-war game—there was so much energy and excitement! The event was well-organized, with many vendors offering valuable resources, and the sheer number of backpacks distributed was impressive. It was clear that this event made a significant impact on the community, and I would love to partner with my business next year to contribute even more. Looking forward to being a part of this fantastic event again!

Successful event designed to benefit the children of the community! I thoroughly enjoyed myself! As a player that participated in the game, I would simply ask for a longer game…..maybe 15-20 minute halves. Other that, outstanding job putting the event together from the hosts and sponsors!

I had the pleasure of attending the HeadsUp For Our Youth 9th Annual Rally on Sunday, August 11th, 2024, at the coliseum. The event was well organized and offered entertainment for all ages. The children received backpacks with school supplies to help eased their transition into the new school year. Rick Morton and the members of this organization have been committed to enhancing the lives of youth in this community for years, and we are incredibly grateful for their dedication and service.

The CEO and Owner of this organization, Rick Morton, has always been a strong pillar in the community, from keeping us looking good to making sure our youth get what they need to be better. Mr. Morton and his staff are top notch in everything they do. Thank you Heads Up!

Every year it’s gets better and better! So many activities going on never boring. The volunteers are amazing and attentive. Everyone is working hard that day and even before that day to make it a success and it works. It was fun filled with the basketball game, tug of war, the band, cheerleaders , and the DJ. Dr shaw works hard to make this event a success. They also had great resources for adult and kids.

It was a great experience.It allowed the community to come out and have fun all while giving back as well , It was organized and inspirational

Heads up for you board members and administrative staff always put together a star studded event. You can always expect the energy high, and everyone who comes and participate and sees the energy and how we pour into our community as well as our families and our kids that we always has a successful event.
